I was hooked on this series by the first book. By the end of the second book it was clear that something huge was being built up to, and I formed a lot of expectations for the third, especially because the characters were very well-developed, just like living, breathing people. Wait for it... this one smashed all my expectations! The author's writing really rose to the occasion, this one was epic. Flung fully into the war, Tessa and Anthony each had to face some seemingly insurmountable problems, stuff that could easily make or break a person. This book really captured what I suspect must've been the dramatic reality of WWII, either leading soldiers into battle or having to scramble to save their lives. Since this is the third book in the series I imagine everyone who's already read it won't need my review to buy this one, so for those of you who are checking out the whole series before deciding to buy, let me just say each book gets better and better (and there's one more to go!).
