Surgical Steel 316L surgical stainless steel is a high-quality and widely-used alloy composed primarily of iron, chromium, nickel, and molybdenum. Its remarkable biocompatibility and non-reactive nature with bodily tissues makes it well-suited for medical applications, medical implants and body jewelry. However, because it does contain a small percentage of nickel (10-12%), if you are sensitive to nickel then you will want to look at our titanium jewelry. Titanium Grade 23 Titanium (also known as Ti-4V-ELI) is what we use in our titanium body jewelry. It contains 6% aluminum, 4% vanadium, 0.13% oxygen. This grade is what is most commonly used in medical implants and body jewelry. Becaus it has no nickel, it is excellent for people whose skin has reacted to surgical stainless steel piercing jewelry.
