This is a very well made item and very pretty but there are no photos of the the top removed to show the "bell" portion. The bell portion of the lid where you load the butter has multiple holes manufactured into the piece. The vast majority of butter savers/crocks do not have these holes I think for reasons I will explain below. Some people do like the holes as they supposedly let more water in as you use the butter (reducing the amount of oxidizing air in contact with the butter). However I found that when you load the butter it squeezes out through the holes making a mess. Also the holes remain plugged as you use the butter defeating the supposed air flow. Hard to clean the butter out of the holes without washing butter down your sink into your waste pipes. In my opinion this would be a much better item if the holes were eliminated from their manufacturing process. Also, seems a bit pricey.I recently received a butter bell as a Christmas gift. I loved it so much that I bought this one for a friend. It's beautifully made. She loves it!Awesome butter dish. I originally got it so I could melt butter and put fresh herbs in it and reshape it in the refrigerator again. Now that I see this piece, I might just even leave it out as a decorative piece. It's so pretty.Made well, Holds a stick of butter if you mash into ball.Pretty dishI love my butter dish. It holds a stick of butter keeps it fresh. This is a nice butter keeper that you can lay flat on it's top to set the butter out on the table. It is smaller than some, which I like, I have only two half sticks in there at the moment, it probably will hold a third if I wanted. I empty the water and refill the water portion with ice every day and my butter is packed in well and stays put. It's also very nice pottery. It is well made. Lid lays flat so you can turn in over and put it on the counter (making it easy to fill and easy to use). It has several holes in the inside lid to allow the water to rise to the right level. And it is beautiful on top of all that!Truly love this item. Have a toaster oven and can pre butter my toast or anything that requires soft butter. I just set our a stick of butter, let it soften and press into into the keeper. Use the paper the butter came in and press out the air pockets. No air pockets means no bits of butter falling into the water. Change the water every three days and enjoy. In, of course, love the pattern as well. Enjoy.really nice and a good quality
