I have recently been using this type of stamp pad and it is far superior to my previous ones. The old ones are water based, which is not a bad thing, but the quality of the archival inks is far superior. You can add colours on top using watercolour paint or markers, not just coloured pencils (as I had been using). The colour selection is delightful. I noticed that some reviewers complained that their pads arrived a bit "dried out", well, a few drops of 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol will make them like new. It will also clean up the stamps.
