I fill with 1 & 1/4 sticks of room softened butter and change the water about every 2 or 3 days. I'm not sure a child with small hands would find the large lid size easy to lift off, but once off, it sits securely upright for easy serving. Superb quality crockery.Really beautiful piece of functional art. No one in my household seems to use it for it’s intended purpose but I expected that to happen.Performed as expected.
