Viscaria oculata is a summer annual that is easy to establish from seed and easy to maintain. This variety of Viscaria is called Rose Angel, and it has lovely 2-inch rose colored blooms.
Viscaria is a 10 inch annual plant growing in USDA zones 3 - 10.
Viscaria blooms in just 6 – 8 weeks after sowing, and they have a long bloom season for a wonderful colorful display. The plants are 10 inches in height and about the same in width. They are great for containers or plant them in mass groupings in the front of the flower border.
They are not picky about soil conditions, they like full sun, and they make excellent cut flowers with long, sturdy stems.
Sowing Rate 3 - 4 seeds per plant. After the danger of frost has passed, directly start the Viscaria seed outdoors in a clean, weed free bed. Do not cover the seed but press it into the soil. Maintain moisture until germination occurs. With a temperature of 60F, germination is usually within 10 days. Space the plants 8 – 10 inches apart.
