The 2005 reissue, on Harmonia Mundi's budget series Musique d'abord, of a recording originally published in 1999, which, at the time of writing, sells cheaper in its original edition, Schumann: Der Rose Pilgerfahrt. The interest of Creed's version is that it is triply authentic, one because it is the version with piano accompaniment which Schumann preferred, finding it better suited to the intimacy and delicacy of the material, two because it uses a period forte piano rather than a modern grand, and three because, in the allocation between solo voices and women's choir, it plays the score exactly as Schumann wrote it, unlike the classical (and premiere) recording of the orchestral version by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos in 1974 (Schumann: Der Rose Pilgerfahrt) and the premiere recording of the piano version (1990) by Rupert Huber on ebs (Der Rose Pilgerfahrt).Another advantage of the original Harmonia Mundi edition is that, unlike these two others, it provided French and English translations to the poem. I don't know if this is the case with the Musique d'abord reissue, so better go to the original. For more details see my review of the original edition.
